Coach Darius Merritt has a deep love for the game of volleyball.  He has played at the high school, club, and collegiate level. While playing volleyball, Coach Merritt won 2 regional championships, was nominated, and won MVP twice, won a national championship, and received multiple gold medals with his Junior Olympic team.  His coaching career started at Riverdale Baptist Middle School where he led the team to their first winning season in over a decade. He was then promoted to the head coaching position at Riverdale Baptist High School where he won 4 Conference Championships (Metro Independent School Athletic League), and finished 4th in the National Christian School Athletic Association National Championship. 

In addition to his High School coaching experience, Coach Merritt became a member of USA Volleyball, Chesapeake Region, and was Impact and Safesport certified. During this time, Coach Darius had the opportunity to team up with his mother, affectionately called Coach “Mom” to coach the 14 Black Team for the Southern Maryland Volleyball Club team (SOMDVBC). Together, they won a gold and silver medal. 

Overall, Coach Merritt has 8 years of coaching experience with a lifetime coaching record of 139 wins and 27 losses.  He is excited to begin a new chapter of his career as the head coach of Virginia University of Lynchburg.  Go Dragons!
