Head Coach Tim Newman’s football journey took off as an electrifying athlete at Olympic High School. The multisport athlete is a Charlotte, North Carolina native, where his versatility on the field earned him recognition with an all-county selection. Continuing his athletic pursuits at Johnson C. Smith University, Newman's dominance as a running back was unparalleled. He secured three consecutive selections for the CIAA AllConference recognition and unanimously claimed the offensive MVP title for three consecutive years with the Golden Bulls.

Newman's aspirations led him to the NFL, where he realized his dream by signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 1986. Following his NFL career, he displayed his talents with the Las Vegas Aces in the World Indoor Football League.

Transitioning seamlessly into coaching, Newman returned home to share his expertise. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Johnson C. Smith University, and later transitioned to Fayetteville State University. His success in the collegiate realm caught the attention of the North American Football League, where he was appointed head coach of the Carolina Cowboys, boasting an outstanding 47-2 overall record.

Reinvigorating college programs, Newman assumed head coaching roles at Barber-Scotia College and Louisburg College before ascending to the position of head football coach at Virginia University of Lynchburg in early 2021. After being recognized for his exceptional leadership skillset, Newman was appointed Director of Athletics at the end of the same year, solidifying his commitment to athletic excellence.
