Coach Billy Vaughn Sr will be coaching the safeties and be the head track and field coach here at Virginia University Lynchburg. Vaughn Sr is originally from Roosevelt, Long Island, New York. He attended Roosevelt Jr Sr High School, where he was a football honorable mention All American running back, standout corner back and All State sprinter. Coach Vaughn Sr had several FBS football and track & field scholarship offers and chose The University of Texas at El Paso offer to play running back and return specialist. Prior to coming to Virginia University Lynchburg, Vaughn Sr was working as the head sports and position specific trainer for football and track & field sprinting in Los Angeles, California. He still holds that position, training high school, collegiate and elite athletes. Vaughn Sr has had coaching stops at Susan Miller Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, California, 2013. In 2013  the 4x400 meter relay team ran the second fastest high school time in the nation in 3:12.02, and was anchored by his son Billy Vaughn Jr. At every stop during Vaughn Sr high school track & field coaching career he has taken teams to the State Track & Field Championships. In 2010, Vaughn Sr was the head track & field sprints, hurdles and jumps coach at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, California. 
 
In 2007-2009, Vaughn Sr was hired by San Diego State University (FBS) as a paid intern, working with speed, strength & conditioning and football. He worked with speed training for football and coached explosive and Olympic lifts. He assisted with football, working with the corner backs, running backs and special teams. Vaughn Sr was a staff assistant at Greensboro College (D3), coaching the receivers, speed, strength & conditioning and recruiting. Vaughn Sr was a staff assistant track & field coach at C. W. Post College (D2), now Long Island University (FCS). He coached the sprints, hurdles and jumps and two of his sprinters qualified for the D2 National Track & Field Championships. He coached Ian Smart, a sprinter and running back, who previously held the D2 football career rushing yards record and career touchdown record. Ian signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets and later with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). 
 
Vaughn Sr was a staff assistant for football and track & field at Salisbury University D3. He worked with the defensive back and the sprints, hurdles and jumps in track & field. The team won the conference outdoor track & field championships and runners broke several school records. Vaughn Sr was a staff assistant football and head track & field coach at T. W. Josey High School in Augusta, GA. With football he coached two All American Safeties in Deon Grant and Troy Tolbert. Deon played at the University of Tennessee, where he was a consensus first team All American and in 1998 Tennessee won the BCS College Football National Championship. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the early second round. Deon played in two Super Bowls, wining one. Troy played at Georgia Tech University. Vaughn Sr states that, as a leader he wants to encourage self awareness, areas for development an growth. Vaughn Sr is a USATF Level 1 certified coach and he received his degree in Kinesiology and Health Science. He presently competes in masters track & field as a sprinter. Vaughn Sr has two sons, Billy Vaughn Jr and Jaris Vaughn. Billy was a high school honorable mention Semper Fidelis All American defensive back and All American track sprints performer. He played football at San Diego State University. Jaris who played defensive tackle at University High School in Los Angeles was offered a football scholarship to New Mexico State University in 2015.
