Armunz Mathews is entering his first season as Safeties Coach at The Virginia University of Lynchburg. Before his start date for VUL, Mathews served as the Safeties Coach at Mississippi Valley State University, a partner for Athletic Strategy out of Denver, Colorado, helping young athletes get to college. Mathews was also the Defensive Backs Coach at Regis Jesuit High School in Denver, Colorado.
During his one year at Regis Jesuit, Mathews had four defensive backs sign to play college football. Mathews coached Lawson Douglas(UPenn), who led the Denver Area in Interceptions for touchdowns, and was an All-State Performer. Damaris Taylor, who was an All-State honorable Mention after just six games under Mathews(Colorado Mesa). Mathews was one of the few coaches selected to coach Denver’s All-American Bowl Series Camp.
While at the Mississippi Valley, Mathews served as the Safeties Coach as well as the Linebackers and Video Coordinator at the University. Mathews coached a few Third Team and Honorable Mention All-Conference Performers. During his playing days, Mathews played for the University of South Florida, Upper Iowa University, and Peru State College. During that time, Mathews was a First Team All-Conference performer. Mathews was top ten in his Junior Season for interceptions in the NAIA.
From Quincy, Florida, Mathews was a First Team All-State in football at North Florida Christian High School, where he was a Consensus Three-Star Recruit. Mathews was an All Big Bend Offense performer in his senior year of 2016.
