Coach Kyle Green – will serve as the Defensive Coordinator and coach the Linebacker unit here at Virginia University of Lynchburg. He was born and raised in Northeast Ohio (Cleveland), where he attended, played football, and graduated from John Marshall High School. Green earned first team All-Conference honors and second team All-State as a shutdown cornerback at JMH. In 1993, He went on to play more football at Kent State University. Unfortunately, his playing career was cut short due to an ACL/PCL knee injury, and that is when his coaching career began. Coach Green became a Grad Assistant Coach, working with the defensive backs unit while still earning his Undergrad Degree in Exercise Science. After moving to Atlanta, GA, Coach Green became the Defensive Coordinator for Bethune Middle School in 2004. Due to lack of staffing, he learned how to coach multiple positions at once and design just the right scheme for the players and coaching staff on hand. After two years, he then followed fellow head coach Jonathan Sanks to Towers High School where he became more intense with his 4-4 attacking scheme. He worked very closely with the defensive line and linebackers, teaching them gap responsibility and how to play with leverage. In 2010, he became a Graduate Assistant defensive back Coach for Georgia State University in their inaugural season. Coach Green learned how to be very precise in defensive schemes and mastering a disguised look to opposing offenses. He also was trained in scouting and recruiting players for the collegiate level. In 2021, he returned to his high school alma mater and became a PE Teacher and football coach at John Marshall High School. He began coaching the defensive backs, and in 2024, he was named Defensive Coordinator. Coach Green’s 4-2-5 complex defensive system caused problems and confused many offenses in northeast Ohio. He now brings a similar method and approach to Virginia University of Lynchburg Football Staff. Coach Green has always had his hand on the strength and conditioning at each organization he has coached for. He has a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a master's degree in education: Curriculum Development.
