September 13th in Lynchburg, VA, for our home opener, VUL took on Barber-Scotia College. It was a history-making win. It was Barber-Scotia's first HBCU football game in the history of the school. Dragons rolled up 465 yards in total offense and 54 points. The dragons had some top performers Maximiliano Zavala, who was 7 of 7 for 152 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Newman boys combined for 290 yards. Tim Newman had 14 carries and 176 yards, and Jacob Newman had 14 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Demtris McElvey had three catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Montrell Wright had two catches for 41 yards and two touchdowns. We had a host of players to play well defensively. Kevon Gregory had another pick 6 for 60 yards with his fourth interception and second one for a touchdown. We had strong performances by Coach Green and his defensive coaching staff. We had a solid play from the total defense. It was a great defensive effort, resulting in our first shutout in seven games.
