Sheeko assumes all leadership responsibility for the women's program from Olivia Gaines, who has been tabbed as the new Women's Basketball Coach at NCAA Division I Georgia Southern.
As a first-year assistant coach for the 2022-23 school year, Sheeko helped the Statesmen to a 29-3 overall record, 16-2 record in conference play. He also assisted the team in their NJCAA Division I National Runner-Up finish and Region 10 Championship title. Todd has more than 20 years of prior coaching experience. He began coaching in 1999 with the PAL Cops & Kids 28th Precinct. From there he began a part of the NYCHA Morris Houses League as a founder and director, the Harlem YMCA Jr. Knicks, Upward Basketball, Clover Hill Athletic Association, FCF Ballers AAU, Henrico Wolfpack 10th Grade, John Rolfe Middle School, Upward Stars-Richmond AAU, Milwood School, and Richmond Christian School. Sheeko earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Monroe College in 2015.
"Richard Bland Athletics will be executing a national search for the next women's basketball coach," says Athletic Director, Scott Newton. "In the meantime, we are excited to retain Coach Sheeko in helping keep this National Runner-Up program full steam ahead. Coach Gaines has done so much for this program in just one year of existence, and having Coach Sheeko by her side is the perfect, immendiate move in building another great season in 2023-24.
Coach Todd Sheeko will be joining the VUL Athletic Department as the new Head Men's Basketball Coach. Sheeko brings a wealth of experience, passion, and leadership to the program, and we're excited for all the positive momentum he'll bring to the team this upcoming season.
